San Miguel County, New Mexico (March 15 – 18) – RedRover is on the ground helping the Humane Society of the United States provide daily care and comfort to approximately 60 dogs, including nearly 20 puppies rescued from an alleged cruelty situation at a residential property.

Local authorities in San Miguel County served a search and seizure warrant on the private property yesterday. They found the dogs and puppies living outside in dirty, crowded pens in freezing temperatures. Many were without apparent access to food or water. The rescued animals are unaltered, and several are pregnant.

The HSUS transported the dogs and puppies to a temporary shelter at a confidential location where they will undergo veterinary exams and receive loving, attentive care. The criminal investigation will determine their future custody.

RedRover sent four RedRover Responders trained volunteers led by a RedRover Team Leader to help care for the animals over the next four days. The RedRover Responders volunteers are traveling from Texas, Colorado, and California to assist during this crisis.

“We are thankful we can assist the Humane Society of the United States in caring for these poor dogs and pups that were found in such deplorable conditions,” said RedRover Field Services and Community Program Manager Devon Krusko. “RedRover Responders is committed to providing extra special care to these animals so that they can receive the love they deserve.”

With more than 4,600 trained volunteers in the United States and Canada, RedRover can deploy its volunteers quickly when communities become overburdened by a crisis involving a high number of animals. The volunteers provide a skilled and compassionate workforce which enables a jurisdiction to address local cases of animal cruelty and neglect.

In its 35-year history, RedRover has responded to more than 240 natural disasters and other crises around the country including Hurricane Harvey, the recent Northern California wildfires, Superstorm Sandy, and many more.
