For the second year, RedRover is hosting an event-forward Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) campaign focused on highlighting the link between domestic violence and animal violence, and how we as a collective community can support more survivors and their companion animals in finding safety and healing together.
We launched this second annual campaign with a discussion featuring leaders in the space, including:
After our discussion, one RedRover supporter shared how, “it’s so uplifting to see and hear everyone’s passion, commitment, and determination.” It’s because of our community’s support that we can put issues like this – survivors of domestic violence having to make the choice to leave their pets behind, or stay together through crisis – at the forefront of the work being done together. It was an inspiring conversation that celebrated where we’ve come from while also acknowledging that we can keep learning, evolving, and growing from here. Recognizing that new questions and new challenges will always come up is an important part of the process – it means we will create and adapt programming with survivors and their families at the center.
The core of our work is about bringing animals and their people from crisis to care. On behalf of the survivors, advocates, and shelters we support through our work at RedRover, thank you.
We cannot do this alone. Thank you for all you do to support survivors of domestic violence and their pets.
I invite you to continue the conversation with us:
