When our RedRover Responders team got the call that a Tennessee shelter needed help caring for a sudden influx of dogs surrendered from a single property, we knew we had to act fast. Staff rushed to the airport for an overnight flight, a dedicated volunteer drove more than 12 hours, and others rearranged their schedules so they could arrive as soon as possible to support the staff and animals at Cheatham County Animal Care and Control. The dogs had been living in difficult conditions, and we were happy to assist during a time when the shelter had the highest number of dogs in care that they’ve ever experienced.
Our incredible RedRover Responders volunteers stepped up to help alleviate the daily care burden from the small shelter staff, pitching in with feeding, long walks, yard playtime, and plenty of snuggles. The more time we spent with each pup, the more they started to show their personalities, and they looked forward to their turn to walk or have playtime in the yard.
The summer heat and high humidity was no match for our volunteers, who worked tirelessly, day after day in the difficult weather conditions to give every dog as much individual attention as possible, walking literal miles every day. We were sweatin’! The dogs are now on their way to finding loving homes, and the shelter staff received a much needed hand, all thanks to our amazing RedRover Responders volunteers.
