“After a run-in with a prickly plant, Winston is feeling much better!”
It was love at first sight for Alaura when she saw Winston, a fluffy orange kitten at an adoption event:
“I had my hands full with his kitty behavior, but knew I wouldn’t want to change it for the world. He’s grown into the most cuddly, affectionate cat. He gave me strength when I needed courage to leave difficult situations. He brings me joy and love every single day. He’s got me wrapped around his finger.”
Winston had won not only Alaura’s heart, but also the love of her parents, who Winston stayed with when Alaura had to travel for work. They were overjoyed when Winston came to stay with them for a few days, but the excitement quickly turned to stress when Winston snuck outside and ingested a piece of foxtail. Not wanting to take any chances with the prickly plant, Alaura took Winston to the veterinary hospital, where they tried to remove the foxtail, but they could only get a piece of it.
At another veterinary hospital, Alaura learned Winston would need a second procedure to remove the remaining foxtail. Winston’s first emergency visit had drained her savings, but Alaura knew that she had to do whatever she could to make sure Winston got the care he needed. A local nonprofit told Alaura about the RedRover Relief Urgent Care grant, and she applied straight away. After their grant was approved, Winston was finally foxtail-free, and came home to Alaura for a quiet recovery.
Winston still loves visiting his grandpaw-rents when Alaura travels – under close supervision!
