Meet Major

“Mischevious Major is back to his old self, thanks to you!”

Handsome Dalmatian Major’s gentle, joyous nature had made him a beloved family member for the entire household – Nashika, her two children, and her mother. Welcoming Major into their home had brightened the lives of the entire family:

“Major means everything to me and my kids. Major is loved not just by me but also by my mom. She was having hip problems and Major helped her exercise and walk more. She has less health issues because of Major. Major isn’t just a dog but a member of our family. It wouldn’t just be a loss for me but a loss for our whole entire family if we weren’t able to save Major’s life.”

One day after school, Nashika’s children saw Major throw up a sock that he had stolen from a laundry basket. Nashika was relieved that the sock didn’t get digested, and assumed that was the last of the issues, but a week later, Major still wasn’t acting like himself – he was lounging and walking slowly when he usually preferred running around with his dog friends, and soon after, he stopped having bowel movements.

Worried about Major’s behavior along with his lack of bowel movements, Nashika took Major to the animal hospital. While Major had thrown up the sock, an x-ray showed that something else was causing an intestinal blockage, and Major would need surgery to remove the foreign object and relieve the obstruction.

Nashika knew that forgoing the surgery was not an option for her family, but as a recent graduate still looking for a job, all while caring for her mother and two children, there wasn’t room in her budget for the unplanned expense. Nashika began searching for any resources that could assist with the cost, and her local animal shelter told her about the RedRover Relief Urgent Care grant. Soon after, Major’s application was approved, and he came through surgery like a champ! After a few quiet weeks at home with his family, Major was more than ready to get back to his zoomies and go play with his dog friends!
