The 25 by 2025 campaign has always been about building community support to help ensure that domestic violence (DV) shelters have the funding and tools they need to become pet friendly. We learned a long time ago that it wasn’t enough to just offer grant funding, but that we needed to support organizations in the process. It’s the technical support we provide through one-on-one conversations, the Don’t Forget the Pets collaborative project, and through creating spaces and opportunities for organizations to connect with each other.
This month, we brought community members together for our annual 25 by 2025 update call where we shared the current percentage (19.5%!) and announced our revamped website, toolkit, and plans for the rest of the year. The website updates focus on showing just how simple pet-friendly housing can be, and the toolkit has brand-new social media language and graphics. If you haven’t checked out the website recently, make sure you head over there now!
We also shared about our next 25 by 2025 virtual event on Tuesday, September 30! More details to come soon, but we hope you’ll join us for a special panel discussion on the link between human and animal violence from national leaders, including Claire Ponder Selib from the National Organization for Victim Advocacy and Ashley Rumschlag from DomesticShelters.org. Plus we’ll be hosting a series of virtual conversations throughout October for Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM).
Stay tuned for all of these exciting events, and let’s keep working towards a future where survivors and their pets find safety and healing together.
