  • "I evacuated from Katrina with my two dogs and I understand how tough it is to wonder if you will have a home to go back to and finding a safe space for your pets to keep them with you."

This month marks 20 years since RedRover and over 400 RedRover Responders volunteers worked together to support animals and people affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. For pet owners, the storm was a nightmare that tested the unbreakable bond between families and their beloved pets. RedRover, at the time known as United Animal Nations (UAN), sprang into action, deploying RedRover Responders volunteers from across the country and Canada to come together to support those affected.

Today, we remain committed to helping families and pets in crisis through programs like RedRover Responders and as a founding member of the National Animal Rescue and Sheltering Coalition created as a result of Hurricane Katrina), but our work never ends.

The RedRover Responders team continues to provide vital emergency sheltering assistance for animals  displaced by natural disasters or rescued from cruelty situations. With the help of more than 4,800 volunteers, our organization stands at the ready to be there for people and animals when disaster strikes.
