Pet Corner

At home with the one you love

Even though kids have been away from their friends and some family during the COVID-19
pandemic, they have grown closer to their pets at home. Have you been getting to know your
family or pets better because of the quarantine, the time of staying away from others to prevent
the spread of disease? See how some RedRover youth have been spending time with their pets.

                                           Ten-year-old Tiana says,
                                           “During the quarantine, my
cat Buster ran away and was
lost for three weeks. With the
help of some very kind neigh-
bors, we were able to bring
him home. Buster is 16 years
old. I learned that older cats
do not like to play as much,
so we do lazy cat things like
Nine-year-old Stella and her lounge and read. Buster makes
two guinea pigs, Rufus and me feel happy to have him
Reggie, have spent a lot of back with me.”
        time bonding. Stella recently
        rescued the guinea pigs.
        Stella says, “I've learned all
about their personalities! Ten-year-old John says,
Rufus is more shy than Reggie. “Brownie likes to go on walks.
They've taught me how to be Brownie and I play around the
more gentle with my pets, house, and I try to teach him
and they've taught me how to new tricks, like how to hop up
take responsibility like cleaning on my bed — my bed is pretty
their cage and feeding them. high. I also give him a bath, so
They have really helped me that he doesn’t smell stinky.
when I stay at home because During quarantine, we have
they make it more fun and gotten really close. Now, I get
because they are so funny! a chance to see Brownie all day,
I love my guinea pigs." which he loves."
