Third Deployment in a Month Caring For Animals Displaced by Hurricanes

Madison, New Jersey – RedRover, a national nonprofit animal welfare organization, will be on the ground Wednesday, October 4, in Madison, New Jersey, to help St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center provide daily care and comfort for adoptable animals evacuated out of Puerto Rico who are looking for forever homes. The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) asked RedRover to provide additional support at the shelter during this emergency.

RedRover will deploy a team of RedRover Responders volunteers for six days to help The HSUS and St. Hubert’s care for these animals. The RedRover Responders volunteers are traveling from Maine, Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, District of Columbia and Connecticut to assist during this crisis.

“Our hearts go out to the people and animals in Puerto Rico who have been hit hard back- to-back by both Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria,” said RedRover Director of Field Services, Beth Gammie. “RedRover Responders are committed to providing care and comfort in this time of crisis before these animals find new homes.”

Distinguished by their red shirts, RedRover Responders volunteers are specially trained to care for and shelter large numbers of animals after they have been rescued from natural disasters. Our volunteers provide the workforce which enables communities to address their animal needs following a natural disaster.

With more than 3,900 trained volunteers in the United States and Canada, RedRover can deploy its volunteers quickly when communities become overburdened by a crisis involving large numbers of animals. In its 30-year history, RedRover has responded to more than 186 natural disasters and other crises, including Hurricane Irma, Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Katrina, Superstorm Sandy and many more.
